The community goes to 'Alton Towers'

With the funding that was secured by 'The youth committee' a community day out was planned and we took 48 people from the Overchurch and surrounding areas for a thrilling day out at the Alton Towers theme park in Stoke-on-Trent.

The day was a huge success and enjoyed by everyone who attended. We left from the community shop at 8:30am and spent the majority of the day at the park and we arrived back at the community shop with more than half a coach of 'sleepy heads'.

The day would not of been possible without the funding from "Youth Opportunity Fund" for cost of the tickets, and also "Merseyside Police" for meeting the cost of the coach hire.

So a great thanks goes to everyone that made the day possible, from everyone that attended.

'Good Citizen award' - For a local Young Person

Good Citizen award winner Daryl Parker and Acting Inspector Simon FitzpatrickThe Merseyside Police Community Relations Department, Wallasey, together with the North Wirral Crime Prevention Panel have recently awarded a "Good Citizen" award to a young person from Overchurch.

Nominated by Dedicated Officers Constable Mandy Hamilton and PCSTO Linda Sillitoe for his involvement in the Community to engage young people in diversionary activities, Sixteen-year-old Daryl Parker from Overchurch, a former Woodchurch High pupil, is also actively involved as a member of Overchurch Residents Association. Daryl uses this forum to promote the youth diversionary activities he is involved in on the estate.

Rave Caves
After consultation with his peers he initiated "Rave Caves" at the local Community centre. These have proved so successful that they are held on a monthly basis and attract 100 young people from all across Merseyside who may otherwise be involved in Anti-Social Behaviour.

Daryl provides the music and teaches younger members how to mix the music themselves. The raves have not only provided a safe place to go, they have also involved Wirral Anti-social Behaviour Team, the Overchurch Residents Association and the Police.

Rewarding young people
Daryl also attended Army days held on the estate and was part of a local team that took part in the Dragon Boat races in Merseyside Police Chief's Challenge 2008.

Youth Co-ordinator Constable Colin Newby said, "It's always a pleasure to be able to reward young people for positive actions which make Wirral a safer place to live, work and visit.
